Funding Youth Athletics Since 2000

At the Domen/Marcu Foundation, we are dedicated to supporting kids in our community by providing funding for sports equipment and expenses. Our mission is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to participate in sports and enjoy the benefits of staying active. Join us in making a difference in the lives of young athletes today!

  • Our foundation firmly believes and pledges to assist children to be capable of participating in our community’s youth sports programs.

  • Providing an opportunity to engage in extracurricular activities that could have a profound effect on our youth.

  • Our hope is to provide a solid foundation, that encourages, strengthens, and empowers competitive athletes, for the future generations in our community’s youth athletics.

  • The constant commitment and growth observed over the years gives the foundation complete faith and purpose that this is what we were meant to do.

Meet the Team

“Over 20 years ago Steve and I started coaching together at Cardinal High School. I got to know what kind of person Steve was on and off the court. He really has a passion for his hometown of Middlefield and helping our youth sports programs. I know it's something his mom and dad taught him at an early age. Family and community first. The Domen/Marcu Foundation will always be a pillar in Middlefield for many years to come, due to Steve's vision of helping our youth in sports.”

– Jon Cummins, Cardinals Former Basketball Coach

The Origin Story

The Nina Marcu Private Leisure Assistance for Youth Trust Fund has been established to help provide donated money to supplement the cost for youth athletes who are financially unable to participate in sports and leisure activities.

In the year 2000 Steve Marcu and Doug Esenwine started the Nick & Whitey golf outing to raise funds for the Middlefield Youth League in memory of Steve’s father, Nick Marcu, and Doug’s Grandfather, Whitey Esenwine, who had dedicated much of their lives to development and growth of the league.

It is rumored that Whitey anonymously established the Middlefield Youth League.

Nick Marcu spent countless hours maintaining the local ball diamonds (located on Sperry Lane), with support from his wife Nina and his very own tractor and drag. He dedicated so much time down at the Mineral Lake ball fields that he became a local icon and the field was named after him.

In honor of Nina Marcu’s support of her beloved husband’s admiration for youth sports, the Nina Marcu P.L.A.Y Trust Fund was developed, which in 2023 became The Domen / Marcu Foundation.

Steve Marcu and Middlefield Recreation recognize there is a growing number of families whose budgets are stretched so thin that there just isn’t room for sports and leisure activities.

The Domen /Marcu Foundation will help defray some of the expenses associated with youth athletics. However, we do rely on the hearts of the general public, and business community to help support it, either by direct donation or by participation in the annual
Domen / Marcu Foundation golf outing.
